SUBJECT: Attendance
Attendance is very important here at Rural Vale School but we do realize that sometimes it cannot be helped. The following guidelines have been put in place for 2019/2020 School Year County wide.
(Unexcused absences) When students have 3 unexcused absences they will be required to have a meeting along with their guardian with Mr. Hicks our principal and myself in which a contract will be signed agreeing that the student will not miss any more unexcused absence days. When 5 unexcused days are reached then the student will have a meeting with the county’s Attendance, Student Manager and if 7 days are reached then they will be required to go before the truancy court.
(Unexcused tardies) If your child has more than 5 unexcused tardies and they do not provide a valid note such as a doctor, dentist, etc. that tardy will be unexcused and after 5 unexcused tardies those will turn into 1 unexcused absence. A tardy is the result of coming in after 8:00 a.m. and being picked up before 3:00 p.m. (Be on time and stay in school!)
(Parent notes) A student is allowed 5 Parent Notes per YEAR and unlimited Doctor notes, but remember these notes have to be turned in within 5 days from the absence if not they will be counted as an unexcused absence.
Please be aware of these changes for this school year. If you need further details on attendance please refer to (website) and go to parent, parent resources, and student handbook, pages 3-5.
“Stay in school, attendance does matter.”
