Mrs. Deanne Kirkland » BIOGRAPHY

I graduated from Carson-Newman College in December of 1994 with a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences. I worked in retail and finance management for seven years before I returned to school and earned my certificate to teach grades K-8. While my degree certified me to teach all elementary grades, my heart was calling me to teach middle schoolers. I got my wish in January 2003, teaching 8th grade ELA at TPJHS until May 2006.
Then I got my “once in a lifetime” opportunity to teach at RVS! I joined the RVS family in August of 2006 where I taught a 1st/2nd grade class for two years. I then taught kindergarten for four years until I got the opportunity to move back to middle grades. I have taught ELA here at RVS since then and know that I am right where I am supposed to be.
I married my wonderful husband, Greg, in June of 2005. We have two children: Weston, 23 and Cole, 16. Weston just graduated with a degree in Engineering from UT Martin, and Cole is a Junior at TPHS.
When I’m not teaching, you are most likely to find me hiking, camping, or curling up with a good book. Most of my free time is spent with my family enjoying the outdoors or supporting my boys as they compete in sports. Cole is my baseball player, and Weston is a pro rodeo bronc rider.
